[백남준] 한 미국학자는 중국이 서구를 1300년 간 앞섰다

최근 미국의 역사학자 마이클 하트는 대담한 가설을 제시했다. 서기 2세기까지는 서양 문명이 중국 문화보다 더 발전되어 있었으나, 그 시점에서 발전 규모가 역전되어 중국 문명이 서양 문명을 따라잡았을 뿐만 아니라 실제로는 세계문명을 15세기까지 이끌었다.

 

[참고 중국에서는 서기 105년 후한시대 화제(和帝)때 궁중의 물자 조달 책임자였던 채륜(菜倫)이 <종이를 발명>한 것으로 기록되어 있다. 채륜이 제지술을 개량했던 서기 105년 경은 한나라가 한반도에 낙랑군을 비롯한 4군을 설치했던 시기였다. 이때부터 동양이 서양을 앞서다]

 

그러나 15세기부터는 서양이 다시 선두주자가 되었다.

 

마이클 하트 씨는 커뮤니케이션 분야의 발명품, 2세기에는 종이, 15세기에는 인쇄기의 발명품이 이러한 두 가지 반전을 가져온 결정적인 요인이었다고 생각한다. (물론 한국과 중국이 구텐베르크 이전에 이동식을 발명했지만, 자동화의 영향력은 한글의 26글자의 음성 문화와 중국어 5만 개의 기호를 가진 회화 문화가 크게 다르다.)

 

일본의 몽골 역사 전문가 이와무라 씨에 따르면, 말은 단지 기원전 1000년에 길들여졌다고 한다. (오래된 화석은 말이 오늘날의 개보다 크지 않다는 것을 보여준다.) 기원전 1000년경 인류의 급격한 발전은 말의 발명에서 비롯되었을 수도 있는데, 이는 전쟁과 수송의 실질 뿐만 아니라 커뮤니케이션도 바꿨다!!

 

Recently Michael Hart, an american historian, proposed a bold hypothesis. Western civilisation had been more advanced than the chinese culture upto the 2nd century AD but at that point the progress scale got reversed, ... Chinese civilisation not only caught up with the western civilisation but actually did lead her up to 15th century. /But from the 15th century on, the West became the leader again up to now. 

 

Mr. Michael Hart thinks that the inventions in the communication field, the paper in second century and the printing press in 15th century, were the decisive factors in this two reversals. (Of course the koreans and chinese invented the movable type before Gutenberg but the impact of automation is vastly different in the phonetic culture of 26 letters (elements) and pictographic culture with 50 000 symbols.)

 

According to Mr. Iwamura, japanese specialist on mongolian history, horse was domesticated only 1000 BC (old fossils show the horse not larges than today's dog) The sudden progress of humanity aruond 1000 BC may have come from the invention of horse which not only changed the substance of warfare and transportation but also the communication. !!
