[백남준] 1963년 'TV아트' 창시,1969년 '신디사이저' 발명, 1973년 '유튜브' 예언, 1974년 '인터넷' 착안

 

백남준 독일에서 미국 뉴욕으로 넘어가는 시기 1957-1974년 20여 년 치열한 도전 속에서 천재의 불꽃을 피우다

 

[1] 백남준 독일시대 : 1957(1956년 말)~1963년 7년간(독일대학 수업 관심 없었고, 독일 대학교수들 우습게 보다, 아예 대학을 차버리다시피 하다. 전위적 실험예술가들(존 케이지, 슈톡하우젠, 플럭서스 회원들과 놀다) 이 독일 수업시대 전자공학을 독학으로 공부하면서 지난한 고생과 어려운 진통 끝에 <TV아트 발명>하다. 이때는 유학비를 집에서 보내주었기에 굶지는 않았다

 

[2] 백남준 뉴욕시대(1964년 뉴욕 도착) 중 : 1968~1979년 11년간 '벨연구소'를 다니면서 '미래사회 4차산업시대 대비하는 리포트를 쓰는 중 (중간에 록펠러재단 기금도 받다) 1969년 유튜브가 가능한 시디사이저(비디오 합성기, 20세기 TV와 함께 최고 발명품 혹은 장난감이라 불린다) 아베와 함께 발명하다. 그리고 1973년 1인 미디어 <유튜브 시대>를 예언하다. 마침내 1974년 <인터넷을 착안>하다. 1964년부터 유학비가 끊어지다. 1964~1974년 10년간 뉴욕에서 제대로 먹지 못해 영양실조에 걸리다. 1974년 뉴욕 미술계의 지축을 흔드는 <TV부처> 성공으로 굶주림에서 벗어난다. 네덜란드 국립미술관에서 <TV부처> 소장하다.​

 

[1] Nam June Paik's German period: 7 years from 1957 to 1963 (he had no interest in German university classes, looked down on German university professors, and almost abandoned the university. He rather studied avant-garde experimental artists, John Cage, Stockhausen, and Fluxus) Playing with members. He studied electronic engineering on his own during the German school era and, after much hardship and experimental spirit, invented <TV art>. At this time, he did not starve because his home sent his study abroad expenses.

From 1964 to 1974, he suffered from malnutrition due to not eating properly in New York for 10 years. In 1974, he escaped starvation with the success of <TV Buddha>, which shook the New York art world. <TV Buddha> is collected by the Netherlands National Gallery.
